Lovers' Song

Under the moonlight her song arises, under the starry sky,
Singing her heart for her love to return, singing the days by.
The night wanes, but the voice does not, forever singing on,
So clearly quiet; song in silence, silence in song.
The stars look down and cry for her, echoing her inner art,
Like a silver mirror reflecting all the sorrow of her heart.
So many years have passed and yet, her heart still is broken;
Joined by love and bound by vow, she sings the promise she had spoken.
Unable to let go, she continues to sing, sweetly sing the lover’s song;
A duet with a part that is missing, a refrain she cannot sing alone.
Incomplete is the song, and the stars are trying to sing the other part;
But the song grows only more melancholy than even it was at the start.
The words turn from a love lost to a dragon, sleeping but strong;
The dormant power to change the world is in her, but still she sleeps on.
To heal a broken world, a trialed heart is what it takes,
For even brokenness must beware the power when her love awakes.

I was listening to "Wings of the Wind" (from Record of Lodoss War) when I wrote this. The very last line was what was in my head when I wrote it, and it's the best--or rather the only good--line in the whole thing. I do so very much like that line.
