My Lady
5-31-08

My lady fair, so beautiful and gay,
With laughing voice and silky raven hair,
Pray, wilt thou come and join me this fine day?
Your absence, love, is more than I can bear.

Your lips that smile and eyes that shine so bright
I love to see in any mood, 'tis true.
Pray come, my love, and bask in heaven's light,
And I, sweet angel, shall live there with you.

You must have fallen down from a great height
And Heaven misses now its darling child;
You are my cure for solitude's sad blight,
But Heaven misses you, so fair and wild.

My lady fair, come down and walk with me,
Angelic maid so beautiful and free.

                       Even more obviously than the last one, this is definitely not me. For one thing, the speaker is male. In case you didn't see the notes on "One Moment," my best friend and I are writing a story together and we have a character who would quote Shakespearean poetry, only there is no Shakespeare in their world. So I'm the source of the "old, classic poetry" that she quotes. I tried to use iambic pentameter to imitate Shakespeare, but this is only my second attempt ("One Moment" being my first), and so of course it is not perfect. If it is used in our story, this one's billed "Sonnet 54."
